The archipelago of Fernando de Noronha is Brazil’s closest spot to Paradise. 300 km away from the north east coast of the country, Noronha concentrates places of unrivalled beauty. On top of that, Noronha is a rare place where preserving the environment is the foremost concern for its inhabitants. The archipelago is formed is formed by the main island, inhabited, and a series of smaller islands. Part of the archipelago forms the Maritime National Park of Fernando de Noronha. UNESCO declared Noronha a World Natural Heritage Site in 2001.

The Lencois (in Portuguese, sheets), are a large desert in the state of Maranhao. These are the world’s most amazing desert and are indeed different. Between June and September the dunes share the space with lagoons formed by the accumulation of water fallen during the rainy season.

4. Ilha Grande (Rio de Janeiro)

Ilha Grande is a popular tourist destination on the southern coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro. Ilha Grande is the ideal destination for those seeking a close contact with nature. Ilha Grande is a mountainous tropical island where no cars are allowed; an island covered by a dense tropical rainforest (mata atlantica) for most of its extension; hiking paths crossing the island from north to south and east to west; idyllic beaches and crystal-clear waters. Ilha Grande is definitely not for those keen on sophistication, shopping and a thriving night life.

5. Boipeba (Bahia)

Ilha de Boipeba (Boipeba island), or simply Boipeba, is one of those beach destinations that still maintains an air of isolation and remoteness. A quiet village where no cars can be found and an island full of fabulous beaches await you at Boipeba, a few hundred meters south of the island of Tinhare, where the popular Morro de Sao Paulo is found.

6. Iguazu falls (Parana and Argentina)

The Iguazu falls are an unavoidable stop in the itinerary of most visitors to both Brazil and Argentina. In spite of its popularity and overcrowding during certain times of the year, the beauty of the falls is so captivating that you don’t need to make a big effort to forget the crowds and enjoy the place. Some of the most amazing points in Iguazu falls are the Devil’s Throat, on the Argentinian side of the falls; the walkways on both sides of the falls; the Buddhist temple in Foz do Iguaçu; the Parque das Aves right next to the entrance to the Brazilian National Park.

7. Bonito (Mato Grosso do Sul)

Bonito is a very popular ecotourism destination not very well known outside Brazil. The main reason for its relatively unknown status outside Brazil might be due to its remote location. Bonito is a village in the southernmost part of the Pantanal, 300 km away from the nearest major airport (Campo Grande). Things you would love about this beautiful place are the crystalline waters of the rivers around Bonito, snorkelling surrounded by fish, the apparent concern for the environment.

8. Morro de Sao Paulo (Bahia)

Morro de São Paulo is a small village on the island of Tinharé, 60 km south from Salvador, in the state of Bahia. You would really like to spend the day at the 4th Beach during the low tide, to have dinner at the main street on the Vila and see the sunset from the Morro or the Fort and then watch the dolphins feed at the bay. Morro is divided into beaches and everyone refers to them by their name. You can see their location at the Google map as well.

9. Arraial d’Ajuda (Bahia)

Arraial d’Ajuda is the charming neighbour of that magnet for mass tourism that is Porto Seguro. The river separating Arraial from Porto Seguro keeps away from the former the worst excesses of the later. Places you would like the most in Arraial d’ Ajuda the beaches, to walk long the rua do Mucugê at the end of the day; the open-air restaurants; having some delicious caipirinhas with our friends at the bar Girassol.

10. Jericoacoara (Ceará)

Jericoacoara is a destination with a mythical status among tourists. Its success lies on the difficult access and the achievements of its habitants in defending the village from the attacks of unsustainable tourism. The trip run by some reckless delinquents to catch seahorses (a protected species); the bar at the Lagoa da Torta where minute lobsters are sold; a travel agency (with the name of an Australian animal) that runs awful trips in Jericoacora.
