These comfort burgers have all the mouthwatering goodness of meat loaf—only we took the bread out of the meat loaf mix and put it on the outside so you can hold the whole thing in your hands. The secret to this tasty burger is the mixture of beef and pork.
MAKES 6 BURGERS
Ingredients
1 pound ground beef round
¾ pound ground pork
1 6-ounce can tomato paste
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 small onion, chopped
2 teaspoons chopped fresh oregano leaves or 1 teaspoon dried
1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme leaves or ½ teaspoon dried
Directions
1. In a large mixing bowl, gently mix all the ingredients together. Form into 6 patties, each 1 inch thick.
2. Lightly oil the grill or a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the burgers to the desired degree of doneness, 6 to 8 minutes per side for medium.
SERVE IT UP on toasted white bread or thick-sliced country bread
TOP IT OFF with Tangy Tomato Sauce (recipe follows) or Kick-Ass Ketchup
Tangy Tomato Sauce
MAKES 1 CUP
¼ cup tomato sauce
¼ cup cider vinegar
¼ cup firmly packed light brown sugar
¼ cup Dijon mustard
Mix together all the ingredients in a small bowl.
